The image I chose to discuss is an advertisement for Tab Energy drinks. In this advertisement, you see a woman who is clearly out at night. You also see Tab Energy in a martini glass and a handbag on the table. Using this clues (even though not needed because of the amount of pink), it is clear to tell that the intended audience for this advertisement is women. Everyone knows what an energy drink is made to do- give you an artificial burst of energy for a temporary amount of time. In this advertisement, due to the image of the woman out at night, it is clear that Tab is portraying that Tab Energy is useful for nights on the town. All of this can be inferred from the picture of the woman. The next part of the advertisement that one would look at is the text- "Fake is for last night, not handbags". When I read the text of this advertisement, I was a little confused. I was able to know from the picture what the advertisement was saying- drink Tab Energy when you go out at night- but what was the point of the text? Like I stated earlier, energy drinks give people an artificial burst of energy. I believe Tab uses the phrase "Fake is for last night" in order to make the point that by drinking their artificial energy drink, you will better enjoy your night. Personally, I believe the phrase "not for your handbags" is off topic with the advertisement. Although the advertisement is clearly targeting women, the comment about handbags has no relevance towards the Tab Energy drink. Tab Energy is obviously commenting on counterfeit purses and their opinion on them. This issue is separate from Tab Energy and is random that they acknowledge it. Even though the advertisement is targeted for women, I believe Tab Energy should have just talked about their energy drink, and not purses.
